And here on this sunny day (well sunny in Florida, a very rare occasion might I add) we’re doing a Q/A with one of Comp-Ware Systems’ successful salesmen – Carson Shaffer.

Carson is an Air Force Veteran, Musician, IT Guy, and Feed Store Owner. He lives on a small farm with his family and somewhere around 50 animals between Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida; he has been involved in 4-H for over 14 years and is the current serving Chairman of the Orange County 4-H Board and is also a 2,500+ hour volunteer at the VA. With a strong background as a Feed Store Owner and IT Business Owner, Carson understands the entire system from running the wires, setting up the computers, installing and maintaining Point of Sale Systems and then applying all that to the feed/pet business – as an owner. Carson gets the most satisfaction out of seeing business owners get exactly the right tools to grow their business.

Favorite hobby to do when the work is at a break time point?

Racing, SCUBA, Music (I play in a Jimmy Buffett-style Band), take care of the farm, boating, fishing, the list is endless LOL

What has been your most interesting sales experience?

Parents who have run the store successfully for decades using cash registers who are now handing their store over to their totally technical offspring who want to install every gadget under the sun.

Funniest story from owning a feed store?

When I found out that people used Iodine to make drugs, I wanted to charge $750/gallon for it, unless you were a rancher (dusty boots), then it would be the regular price. My wife wouldn’t let me.

First job and the change that job placed in your life?

US Air Force. Taught me just about everything I know about life. Best thing I ever did.

Book or movie person?

Books! I just finished ‘Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked’ Highly recommend.

Who’s made the biggest impact for you?

My High School Electronics Shop teacher – Mr. Mayo. He taught me patience. And how to fix TV’s.

If money was no issue, what car including year would you own?

One??? ONE??? 2019 Vette ZR1, 2019 Yenko Camaro, 1969 RS/SS Camaro Convertible, Porsche 911 GT3/RS. There are others.

Out of all the places you’ve visited, what’s been the one to bring you to awe?

The boil of Blue Springs. Water SCUBA Cave dive. There is a spot about 115’ deep where a single beam of light can get all the way down.  To sit and watch that beam dance around the cave in absolute darkness that deep down is truly awe-inspiring.

Apple fanatic or (*secretly pushes apple product off from table* oops) is Android where it’s at?

Well, to me, one is a slotted screwdriver, the other phillips head. Depends on the screw you have! As an IT guy for 25 years, I am ambivalent.

Number one food joint you’ve been to that’s left you on cloud nine?

Citrus Club in Orlando, Florida.

Of the two S’s, are you a sweet or spicy kind of food lover?

Sweet. I could eat milk chocolate for every meal. There would be a very limited number of them, but it sure would be good while it lasted!

If you could sit down for a cup of coffee or tea (*makes a small comment about coffee being superior*) with one famous individual alive or dead, who would you choose?

Ben Franklin. What an incredible guy! He did it all.

Now, for the finale
Spirit animal and why?

Otter – Always in the water, lots of fun, versatile, tough, hang out with your friends, many naps in the sun, eat seafood all day long!

Haha thank you, Carson, for your time!!

As you’ve probably seen thus far, our people tend to each have their own way of thinking and, really their own spot in just about everything. We’re not complaining about that because diversity in personalities and ways of thinking can bring a company like ours to give the best to you guys.

Until next time!
